Important Pointers With Regards Lawyers You Need To Know

By Dawn Enstruthe

A lawyer is a person with professional knowledge of how the law system of a country runs. He is legally recognized as an individual who can practice the law matters of the country. A lawyer may not be able to practice in another country however because of the difference in the two countries laws. Lawyers have high qualifications from universities. The job of a lawyer can be controversial depending on what you feel about a case.

The way we view lawyers today is however not at all that pleasant. A few rotten apples have dragged the rest the good ones through slimy mud. They abused their knowledge of the law to fatten their pockets and they did it with no remorse.

There are very many types of lawyers practicing in the society today. Most of the lawyers are practicing civil law. This is law that is written down and available to all the civilians of a civil law country. It is also called common law because it is for the common man if I may say so.

A lawyer mostly has to argue his client's case in front of a judge and or jury. They however also come in handy in giving legal advice for those who need it. Some will charge for giving you this legal advice and others will not. I guess it will depend on the lawyer's principles.

The most colossal duty of a lawyer is to keep his client from being stepped on by the judiciary system and or civilians. For example they will help you sue when somebody has deliberately wronged you. They will protect you from going to jail when you are really innocent. This is when we all love to love lawyers.

The process of becoming a lawyer is not an easy one. First one must attend about 4 years of law school to get the credentials. The law student must thereafter then take a bar examination. If he passes the bar examination then he becomes a licensed lawyer. In Mexico however you can practice immediately after school.

Once the lawyer has received the license to practice law there are then two ways that he can work. The first is to work for pay. This pay can be a lump sum for example if it is a certain specific case. The pay on the other hand can be calculated according to hourly billing. The number of hours the lawyer bills affects the salary he gets.

Some lawyers however work for no pay at all. They offer their services to the poor who would otherwise have no legal representation. People should not be punished just because they could not afford to hire a defense lawyer. Manly law firms make it a requirement for their lawyers to do a certain number of these cases.
